Stuart is an Extended Scope Physiotherapist and Consultant MSK Sonographer working in the NHS in London. He founded The Ultrasound Site in 2013. He has an interesting working week, dividing his time between Radiology and Physiotherapy, here he performs both diagnostic and guided interventions in both settings. He qualified from the University of Southampton in 2003 with a BSc Physiotherapy, and went on to gain an MSc in Advanced Neuromusculoskeletal Physiotherapy at The University of Hertfordshire and a PG Cert in MSK Sonography at Canterbury and Christ Church University.
Stuart represents The Chartered Society of Physiotherapy as a member organisation of CASE (Consortium of Accredited Sonographic Education). He is also a board member of ACPOMIT (The Association of Chartered Physiotherapists with an interest in Orthopaedic Medicine and Injection Therapy) EPADU (The electrophysical agents and diagnostic ultrasound group).
He is regularly invited to speak at conferences in the UK and abroad including Denmark, Ireland and Madrid. He has provided teaching for many sports clubs including professional football clubs in the UK such as Derby County FC, MK Dons and Newcastle United FC.
Stuart has also taken the plunge and done several live ‘Podcasts’, one via ‘The Physio Matters’ podcast and another for ‘Podchatlive’. Both can be seen below, please watch and hopefully enjoy these!
Stuart was a co-author on the seminal paper led by Dr Mike Smith exploring point of care MSK ultrasound, along with colleague Dave Baker. The paper is the first to explore the complex issues of governance and scope of practice for those starting to use ultrasound imaging.
Stuart was a co-author on the innovative guidance documents produced by The Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP) in 2022. Through his work with CASE (Consortium for the Accreditation of Sonographic Education) he was able to advise and support the development of these unique guidance and context documents.
Stuart supported the BMUS guidance document on ultrasound guided injections as a member of the musculoskeletal ultrasound specialist interest group.
