What is our virtual musculoskeletal ultrasound mentor service?
We are pleased to be able to provide a new, unique service: a virtual musculoskeletal ultrasound mentor – providing you with continuous professional development, and supporting your specific and agreed musculoskeletal ultrasound and guided injection learning needs. You will have the option of 1:1 or group learning sessions with Stuart Wildman, Consultant MSK Sonographer and Advanced Practice Physiotherapist. This will provide you with essential ongoing support following completion of an Introductory level course or PG Cert Ultrasound certificate.
As clinicians ourselves, we understand that the learning curve for integrating musculoskeletal ultrasound into our practice continues long after the completion of training programs, and throughout the journey at different levels. Finding support and expert guidance can be difficult, we are hoping to make that easier!
We can help support your education and CPD with supporting your ability to interpret and report pathological sonographic changes correctly and appropriately integrating and communicating these findings with patients and colleagues.
There is also a need to continue to demonstrate your ongoing CPD and learning with regards to ultrasound use to maintain your competency and ability to use it within your professional scope, whatever the environment you work in. This is a core aspect of professional practice and is stated in all professional bodies codes of conduct as well as ultrasound specific publications produced by The British Medical Ultrasound Society and the Royal College of Radiologists.
(This is not suitable for those seeking mentorship of 100 directly supervised scans in person via a University program in the UK)
It is possible to book repeat sessions at intervals eg fortnightly, monthly, 6 weekly.

Mr Stuart Wildman
MSc, BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy, HCPC, MCSP, PG Cert/CASE accredited Musculoskeletal Sonography, PG Dip injection therapy
Stuart is the founder and director of The Ultrasound Site. He is an Advanced Practice Physiotherapist and Consultant MSK Sonographer working in the NHS in London.
He has an interesting working week, dividing his time between Radiology and Physiotherapy, where he performs both diagnostic ultrasound and ultrasound guided interventions. This provides him with a unique skill of working at a highly specialist level in both these environments, performing complex musculoskeletal ultrasound investigations and injections but also understanding the clinical relevance and impact these findings have on a patient pathway.
Stuart developed a passion for MSK ultrasound education in 2013, developed The Ultrasound Site and has lectured internationally at conferences over the past five years, and provided bespoke training for professional football and rugby teams in the UK. He is an honorary lecturer at Brunel University London as part of the formal partnership between The Ultrasound Site and Brunel in running the PG Cert in MSK ultrasound program and the ultrasound guided injection therapy module.
He has been invited to contribute to a number of books including a chapter on knee ultrasound in ‘ ‘Ultrasound in Rheumatology: A practical guide for Diagnosis‘ and ultrasound guided injections of the shoulder region within ‘The Shoulder: Theory and Practice’.
He is actively involved in educational standards of musculoskeletal ultrasound in the UK contributing to guideline development and being a committee member of CASE (Consortium of Accredited Sonograohic Education) on behalf of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy.
