Keeping things clean..
Stuart Wildman, MSK Sonographer and Extended Scope Physiotherapist
When you are starting to use ultrasound it is important to have appropriate clinical governance in place and one aspect of that is around infection control. It is important to contact and liase with both your ultrasound system manufacturer and local infection control department to develop an appropriate protocol. Not all cleaning agents are suitable to be used with all ultrasound probes and system interfaces.
There is a useful section on the responsibilities of infection control in the British Medical Ultrasound Society, Guidelines for professional practice (2015) HERE.
